Hey friends — Blaze here 🐕🔥
Let me tell you something important.
I wasn’t always eating fresh, homemade meals.
Like most dogs, I started with kibble. And while I survived on it… I didn’t exactly thrive.
There’s a difference.
What We Started Noticing
Nothing dramatic. Just small things:
- Occasional tummy sensitivity
- Inconsistent stool
- Energy spikes and crashes
- Dull patches in my coat
My mum started asking a simple question:
What if the food is the foundation?
Why We Questioned Kibble
Let’s be clear — not all kibble is “bad.”
But most kibble is:
- Highly processed at very high temperatures
- Dry (low moisture)
- Heavy in fillers or starches
- Designed for shelf life, not vibrancy
Processing removes natural enzymes and alters nutrients. Then synthetic vitamins are added back in.
That doesn’t automatically make it terrible. But it made us curious.
Why We Chose Homemade
We didn’t switch overnight.
We researched, learned about balance, talked to professionals, and introduced food slowly.
Here’s what changed when fresh food entered my bowl:
- ✔️ More consistent digestion
- ✔️ Smaller, firmer stools
- ✔️ Improved coat shine
- ✔️ Steadier energy
- ✔️ Better muscle tone
Real food brought moisture back into my diet and recognizable ingredients back into my bowl. And that made sense to us.
Homemade Doesn’t Mean Complicated
People think homemade means:
- ❌ Hours in the kitchen
- ❌ Guesswork
- ❌ Risky imbalances
But when done thoughtfully, it can mean:
- ✔️ Whole proteins
- ✔️ Simple vegetables
- ✔️ Appropriate supplementation
- ✔️ Measured portions
The key is education — not emotion.
Important: This Isn’t About Shame
If you feed kibble, you’re not a bad dog parent.
Many families:
- Have budget limits
- Have time constraints
- Have medical guidance
This is about informed choices, not judgment.
Even adding fresh toppers can improve a bowl.
Progress over perfection.
What “Flourishing” Looks Like
Flourishing isn’t flashy.
It looks like:
- 🐾 Steady energy
- 🐾 Bright eyes
- 🐾 Healthy weight
- 🐾 Comfortable digestion
- 🐾 Strong immune response
It looks like feeling good consistently. That’s what we’re after.
The Bigger Lesson
Food is the foundation.
But food is also part of a bigger picture:
- Movement
- Dental care
- Mental stimulation
- Preventative planning (yes… insurance matters)
- Responsible ownership
This blog is just the beginning.
Community Question
Now I want to hear from you:
- 👉 What are you currently feeding?
- 👉 Have you noticed digestion or energy patterns?
- 👉 Would you ever consider homemade or fresh additions?
Let’s talk in the comments.
Because when we share what works, we all grow.
